Gold Fish Genius

When enough words have been written and echoed, maybe a pictorial can do the trick in early reading.  

Goldfish Genius is a pictorial number which shows the evolution of a gold fish. Through school, stargazing, merry making, hot air balloning and swimming with other fishes as it should be, the gold fish has done it all. 

At a time when conservationists around the world are working on saving the coral reef in our oceans, Gold Fish Genius is a reminder that more work needs to be done to save the marine life. 

Illustrated by  Sam Wilson, Thea Nicole de Klerk and Chenel Ferreira, children in early reading will also learn the names of the ocean life with the help of their teachers and parents.

The way we teach early reading is the biggest mistake in the history of Education.  It handicaps all children and it’s impossible for the 20 per cent of the population we label  as “dyslexic” Reading is traditionally taught using phonetic decoding or “sounding out”.  It is a long process as the child learns the names and sounds of the alphabet and combines them into words they can say.  The child is “reading ready” or simply put, already able to read in Primary One (1) But even after with “reading readiness” courses, some children cannot read.  About 20% suffer from a known brain abnormality that interferes with phonetic decoding.
