Book Dash Wins an International Literacy Award

By Tabitha Makumi, Enabling Support Foundation Communications and PR

For writers, getting an award for work well done through creativity, engaging and thoughtful conversations especially during troubling times such as COVID 19 is a remarkable achievement.

While schools have remained closed in areas where Enabling Support Foundation operates, Book Dash our partner has been providing early children’s books in support of equality in Education 21. In partnership, Enabling Support Foundation has been creating book reviews on a New Library for children’s books.

The South African charitable organization which provides early children’s book to millions of children in Africa has been on a front line of ensuring books are shared and read within Education 21.

In the light of the Literacy Award won during the country's Nation Book Week, Enabling Support Foundation congratulates its partner, the children for reading and education leaders for supporting equality in education.

Learning with Kusoma Has Never Gone Wrong

Lessons by Dr. Robert Zenhausern, Enabling Support Foundation CEO & Founder. When a child has learned the meaning of the spoken word, he/she can learn the meaning of the written word.  The key is in the meaning, very hard to define, but summarized in the common statement of “I know what it is.” When educators teach a child a new spoken word, they are connecting meaning to the sound.  In the same way when you teach a new written word, you are connecting meaning to the word.  Reading should be easier because after the spoken word meaning is gone, the print remains. The Kusoma app can be used for basic vocabulary and I expect a sentence app to be available soon. In formal school (PP1 and 2), the child learns the use of LLT. After a lesson of 10 words, those 10 words have many uses which a child can use to read and understand sentences. Furthermore, they can learn to write sentences of their own. And that’s just not it, with learning to lean in on the Kusoma App...

Much Awaited Manual of Kusoma Integrated Arts is Live

By Tabitha Makumi, Enabling Support Foundation Communications and PR, Until schools re-open in January, parents will be playing the much needed role of teachers, a task they’ve been on since COVID 19 wrecked havoc in the education sector back in March 2020.   Shared by Enabling Support Foundation CEO and Founder, Dr. Robert Zenhausern is an educators manual into the arts of how the app Kusoma works.   “The original approach was called Look, Listen, Think.  The child looks at a word, the word is spoken, and the child thinks about the word no more than two to three seconds,” shares Dr. Robert.   In a previous article on Kusoma being the Answer during COVID 19 by the communications department at the foundation, the Kusoma approach has proven to be effective to reading than the traditional approach. In the recent past, parents have been taught how to utilize Kusoma via email and WhatsApp. Ideally, the approach has been successful to over 900...
