How To Ensure Your Child's Online Safety in E-Learning

By Tabitha Makumi, Enabling Support Foundation Communications and PR

With schools closed and with a lot of time to play with, the most common thing most households are engaged in during the COVID 19 is gathering one’s gadget, locking themselves up, getting their favourite blankie and browsing away.

Reports of online bullying, spying software's are nothing new and should never be ignored. If anything, lack of education around online safety should be labelled as a pandemic of its own. If you’ve got a malicious software or suspect to have one, online predators and hackers could be lurking on your personal data, safety and well-being.

With free creative books which are readily available at Book Dash, Enabling Support Foundation would like to ensure kids in early child development are protected and their e-learning is safe.

For starters, get a credible antivirus to protect your data, information and your online safety and if for anything, your piece of mind. Most of the trusted antivirus programs will be a guide on what’s important.

·         Report malicious data, inappropriate content and ads to Google and App Developers and always keep your apps up to date.

·         Use your personal email to install apps. This ensures reporting of the mentioned is done by you and you are responsible for what you consume online.

·         Check on the browser and app settings. For example, let’s assume you are using Mozilla, below are steps to ensure your online safety is in check

·         On your Privacy and Security Tab, in detail there are ways to enhance your Browser Privacy and one way of ensuring that is possible is by enhancing tracking protection.

·         You have an option of choosing a Standard Protection, Strict Protection and a Custom choice for you and your kids.

·         The same technique for online safety applies to almost all commonly used Apps such as You Tube, Instagram, Face Book, Twitter etc. Under privacy, select the settings that work for your well-being, online privacy and mental health.

Learning with Kusoma Has Never Gone Wrong

Lessons by Dr. Robert Zenhausern, Enabling Support Foundation CEO & Founder. When a child has learned the meaning of the spoken word, he/she can learn the meaning of the written word.  The key is in the meaning, very hard to define, but summarized in the common statement of “I know what it is.” When educators teach a child a new spoken word, they are connecting meaning to the sound.  In the same way when you teach a new written word, you are connecting meaning to the word.  Reading should be easier because after the spoken word meaning is gone, the print remains. The Kusoma app can be used for basic vocabulary and I expect a sentence app to be available soon. In formal school (PP1 and 2), the child learns the use of LLT. After a lesson of 10 words, those 10 words have many uses which a child can use to read and understand sentences. Furthermore, they can learn to write sentences of their own. And that’s just not it, with learning to lean in on the Kusoma App...

Much Awaited Manual of Kusoma Integrated Arts is Live

By Tabitha Makumi, Enabling Support Foundation Communications and PR, Until schools re-open in January, parents will be playing the much needed role of teachers, a task they’ve been on since COVID 19 wrecked havoc in the education sector back in March 2020.   Shared by Enabling Support Foundation CEO and Founder, Dr. Robert Zenhausern is an educators manual into the arts of how the app Kusoma works.   “The original approach was called Look, Listen, Think.  The child looks at a word, the word is spoken, and the child thinks about the word no more than two to three seconds,” shares Dr. Robert.   In a previous article on Kusoma being the Answer during COVID 19 by the communications department at the foundation, the Kusoma approach has proven to be effective to reading than the traditional approach. In the recent past, parents have been taught how to utilize Kusoma via email and WhatsApp. Ideally, the approach has been successful to over 900...
